About Me

I am a crazy woman, funny and carefree but type A and anal all at the same time. I have two daughters and a Father who's a King...what more do I need?! My goal on this planet is to help His bride: literally (I plan weddings for a living!) and spiritually (I occasionally offer words of wisdom to loved ones...) Bless us all on this journey!

Land of the Too Much

I posted recently about the obscene amount of toiletries and chemical beauty products in my house. Then Bethany recently posted about excess in general, too much space too much stuff too much too much. This reminded me of a conversation I've had with a number of girlfriends, about our homes. Only in America do we have every day dining areas and formal dining rooms, or every day family rooms and then living rooms that are just "for pretty." My daughters and I live in a very small 2 bedroom 1 bath home, so there are no "guest baths" or "parlors". In fact there is not one square inch of space that is not used to its fullest! This is a problem when we got to homes that do have rooms that are just to look at, because my girls can't fathom having a living room we don't go into! (Although mommy would LOVE some space where there are no crumbs or barbies or fingerprints....) What do you guys think?

I'm a practical gal too. While I'd love to have some fancy space in our home, I can't imagine having anything that isn't welcoming to all (including kiddos). I go for tidbits of fanciness and plenty of downhome practicality.

more stuff = more money needed = less time with family = I'm with ya girl. I'd like a house all on one level, rooms all usable, inviting to everyone, without feeling like you can't fart on someone's couch.

since i love farting on other people's couches i'm all for patty's comment:) seriously though, i want people to walk into my home feeling wanted and welcomed...even if they spill koolaid on the carpet or track dirt into my bathroom. i love the raymond episode with debra and the mom fighting over the plastic couch cushion and ray and robert being afraid to sit on the couch without it. debra says "i want to spend time with my family loving them, not sterilizing them!" that's key. i love love love clean, i'm type A and organized and clutter ABSOLUTELY makes my brain hurt. but even if i have the big house someday, i'll never have a dining room that can't be dined in!

great post! I used to be bad at stock-piling things while they were on sale or just because I got a good deal, but now I am thinking "do we really NEED this?" I'm trying to live more frugally. WE do not NEED all of the things that we think we need. And I agree with Patty, and I try to tell Hubby this all of the time, that if we get more, it takes more money and time to MAINTAIN it! We dont' ahve either so I'll just be happy with what we have for now.
